Joel Heck
Since 1998, Rev. Dr. Joel D. Heck has served Concordia University at Austin as Professor of Theology. He teaches courses in Old Testament, New Testament, Reformation history, and the life and writings of C. S. Lewis. He has also served as a pastor, high school teacher, and conference speaker. He holds the Doctor of Theology from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He is the author or editor of eight books, most of them in the areas of evangelism and assimilation. His most recent book is Irrigating Deserts: C. S. Lewis on Education (Concordia Publishing House, 2006). It received a Marion E. Wade Center research grant. He is currently working on a book dealing with the intellectual history of Oxford and Cambridge during the Lewis years (1925–1963). Dr. Heck spent the fall of 2004 on sabbatical in Oxford, working with Walter Hooper, former private secretary to C. S. Lewis, on The Collected Letters of C. S. Lewis, Volume 3. He and his wife Cheryl have three children and live in north Austin.
