man cannot live by bread alone
Yes, I know,
But where would we be
Without it?
Flour, salt, water, yeast
and olive oil
Set on a sill to sun herself.
Until she bubbles up like wedding wine
Knead her as much as she needs you
And shape three loaves from her heart of hearts
One for the stranger,
Warm to touch
One for your sister
To swallow her tears
And one for the road
The pilgrim’s path
One for the road called
Remember.
