Ziya Neema is inspired by so called “primitive art.” Having been born in Tanzania and raised in the Virgin Islands, Neema likes to refer to her painting style as Afro-Caribbean. Neema embellishes her large mixed media canvases with hand sewn elements creating a contemporary form of painted “crazy quilts.”
