Pixar, the only animation studio with a perfect record of six major hits, will become the property of Disney Inc. This will make Steve Jobs, the CEO of Pixar and Apple the new King Of All Media because the deal includes him becoming the largest shareholder on Disney’s board of directors. That’s Disney, the company that owns ABC, Miramax and everything else that is not owned by Rupert Murdoch.
What do I think about this? I think Pixar has lost its independence and Disney has bought some credibility. Disney’s post-Katzenberg non-Pixar animation films have sucked for too long and now that the two companies are one, some of that Pixar magic might rub off on Mickey Mouse & Co. Personally I would love to see Pixar’s animators re-do Fantasia. Perhaps Pixar will teach Disney how to write comedy that everyone can laugh to, not just the brain dead.
Anyway, the bottom line is that this deal is all about the movies and what better way to end this blog report than with a link to the teaser for the upcoming Disney film, Cars.
