See Wii doubters? Even SONY thinks tilt sensors are a good idea. Unfortunately it copied Immersion's force feedback a little too close and had to pay around US $100 as a penalty, so there is no rumble in the standard PS3 controller. You will probably have to buy another controller to get force feedback, on top of what you will pay for either unit, game, movie and possibly the new HD screen and sound system. Apparently the new generation arrives when petrol prices drop and my employer doubles my pay.
The HD PS3 will costs as much as a Mac Mini and has the same hard drive capacity; 60 GB. I would get the Mini and Wii. Next year HD optical media will be standard on new PCs so the HD Mini is coming. Nintendo gets everything right with its controller while PS3 and XBox360 play catch up in gameplay. It would not surprise me if Microsoft also unveil a tilt sensitive controller on their E3 keynote presentation.
Anyway, good luck convincing all developers to support the tilt sensors, especially the ones who did not have it in their PS3 demos yesterday. Admittedly, Gran Tourismo’s control would be something to make a stagnant game series exciting again.
The price of the low end model is terrible. The omission of HDMI ports means 480p video is the highest you will get out of something that costs US $100 more than the high-end XBox360 with the same 20 GB hard drive. It also means you would pay double the price of Wii.
A better product would be an even cheaper PS2 with a range of new games based on new peripherals. I think that would take some of the customers Nintendo is chasing with their emphasis on innovation.
High end PS3s will be hot sellers but I do not think the low end model will be too.
