Over the last few weeks I heard many times that the first month
and the last month of any deployment is the most dangerous… it’s true.  I know this first hand.  For all the training and preparation no one knew exactly what to expect.  And the last month can be even more difficult.  Trying to stay focused short range and not keep looking long range to that first beer back home.

Staying focused on the fight and the neverending dangers is a full time job.  This is where people like SGM James Pippen, Col. Eric Welch, Capt. Steve Tegge and Eric Volk stayed the course.  And all of the NCO’s that stayed on the young men venturing outside the wire each and everyday.  Keeping the boys focused on the ball… each time they rolled out “Ghost Gate” into the Indian country.

Train for the Worst...
Thursday, November 15, 2007
“You train for the worst and hope for the best”  SSGT. Jamison Danecker, 3rd Platoon, Alpha Co. 2/7 Cav.  I wish I had a dollar for each time I heard that… but it was true.   And with that in mind he kept his men safe all year.  Prepared for everything they encountered.  Another great leader serving in the United States Army.  These Soldiers started a year-long combat deployment in Iraq, November 3, 2006.
