A friend indeed!

There are people you meet in life that impact your thoughts on many things.   Some you want to be more like and others you hope you never meet again.  And then there are those few who you hope you get a chance to repay them for what they have done for you.

For me, that would be my family first for what all of them have given me my entire life... and next would be these kids, these soldiers.  All of them very different in many ways, to many to list.  But the one thing I find in all of them is heart.  They all have an amazing ability to give of themselves.

Everyday... and I can’t count how many times a day.  Someone is knocking at my door asking me what else I need to get squared away.  Some of them trying to give me things that would leave them with none... see what I mean... heart.  But don’t worry about me.  The PX isn’t that far and someone is always headed across the airfield to Camp Diamond Back.  I have everything I need to get by.

But let me tell you about SGT. Trent Boone.  Trent is one of those people that where ever he goes in life he will always leave people behind hoping he will pass through their lives again.  He is truly a gentle giant with a heart of gold.  Trent is one of the main characters I am following in this Documentary.  He lives in the CHU across from me.  I see him mentoring the soldiers around him all the time.  In a simple, quiet but stern and guiding way.  A trait I hope I will be able to immolate more in my life with my sons.  Trent is always checking on me and making sure all my gear is squared away before we go out anywhere.

I got the chance to meet his family in New Mexico.  At dinner Trent’s Mother asked me to take care of him when I got back to Iraq.  First I apologized and said I couldn’t do that... “I’m sorry, I can’t.  Trent is the one taking care of everyone of us.  As much as I would like to tell you yes, I can’t.  Maam, you have have nothing to worry about”

He is an amazing leader... and will bring all of his soldiers home safely.  I’m proud to be around him and his Soldiers.
Trent...
