Rafting the Grand Canyon
Rafting the Grand Canyon
2008
When Dad suggested we do a rafting trip through the Grand Canyon I had envisioned long days on a raft running rapid after rapid. While there were many rapids on the trip ... some of them very memorable like Lava Falls (class 10) ... the trip was much more than a whitewater run. The guides told us about the formation of the canyon and the many rock layers we went through. They also talked a lot about John Powell’s historic first descent through the canyon in 1869. So it was a geology lesson and a history lesson as well.
We also went on lots of hikes. We spent half a day floating down the turquoise blue water of the Little Colorado River and hikes to numerous waterfalls. Every day was an adventure and every day was different.
Unfortunately the photos really don’t do it justice. If you have the chance I highly recommend this journey. It’s an incredible place to see.
