A Legacy of Generosity

The Friends of Storrs Library have raised more than
$105,000 for additions to the permanent collections in
both the Adult and Children’s Departments at Storrs
Library. Items range from the New Grove Dictionary
of Music and Musicians and the McGraw- Hill Ency-
clopedia of Science and Technology for researchers,
fiction and non-fiction for students, and art cinema
DVDs for the discriminating public.

These additions to the library contribute to the depth
and breadth of the collection. With a modest municipal
materials budget, the Friends have addressed library
needs with enthusiasm and generosity.

Other activities supported by the Friends have included
production and distribution of the library newsletter,
writing workshops for children, scholarly lectures, and
evenings with prominent authors. Often the presentations
are in intimate settings and give the community access to
contemporary literature and accomplished authors. The
newsletter also promotes library programs and services
for a sophisticated community which uses and supports
its library.

The Friends of Storrs Library are a valuable asset to the
town and add a great deal to the quality of life in
Longmeadow. With budget reductions in the past two
years and an ever increasing use of library materials and
services, the Friends support and hard work are valued
and most appreciated.
