$10,000 Grant

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin is very excited about the recent award of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts.  At the end of May we completed and submitted a grant to request money that would be used to help fund some of Teatro’s cultural events such as the Viva Seguin Conjunto Festival, Noche De Gala, and the Competencia/Taller de Primavera.  Teatro is very appreciative of the support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

AmeriCorps VISTA

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin in collaboration with the Texas Lutheran University Center for Servant Leadership wrote a grant to secure a three year grant that would help obtain several AmeriCorps VISTAs.  VISTAs (Volunteers In Service To America) serve renewable one-year terms helping bring individuals and communities out of poverty and receive a monthly living allowance of $833 as well as health coverage. One of the main perks of VISTA is that it entitles students/graduates to place educational loans into forbearance (without accruing interest), and at the end of the service year, receive a $4,725 education award that can be applied to past or future educational expenses. While in service, VISTA members cannot accept any outside employment or be full-time students—thus, the program is ideal for graduating seniors or students taking a break from their studies.

Starting in mid-July 2009, five VISTA members will build bridges between TLU and the Seguin communities.

The 5 position which are available are:  TLU Volunteerism Coordinator, Community Organizer, Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin Worker, Seguin Community Grant-Writer, and Seguin ISD Grant-Writer.

Donation from Seguin Noon Rotary

Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin received a $650 donation from the Seguin Noon Rotary in June 2009.  Check was presented by Stephen Finch, Rotary President to Teatro Board Member Sam Ramos.  To show our appreciation the Ballet Folklorico De La Rosa students and Conjunto Juan Seguin students performed a 20 minute program for all Seguin Noon Rotarians.
