2008 Kaikoura International Open/South Island Champs

It is difficult to find info about the South Island Championship Being played at the moment, but tournament player Justin Davis of Palmerston North (past Hastings & Havelock North Chess Club member) won his first game then went on to draw his second game with IM Andras Toth (2401 FIDE Rating).
Third round Justin had a draw with a player rated 2030, round four Justin had 106 move draw with Rikard Unelius Rated 1848 so he is now on 2½ points (Justin had tried to win Rook & Knight vs Rook).
Next Justin played Chris Benson rated 1793 (1927 FIDE) & won so he is on 3½ out of 5. Round 6 draw with Andy Machdoem a 2109 player, Justin still unbeaten 4 out of 6.

Round seven Justin won his game with Bill Forster. FM Bob Smith had a draw with GM Murray Chandler & IM Stephen Solomon Lost his game with GM Darryl Johansen.
Round eight Justin had his first loss of the tournament, IM Stephen Solomon was to strong.

Justin won his game with Gino Thornton so he caps off what must be his best Tournament ever. GM Darryl Johansen had a draw so he is first equal on 7 with GM Murray Chandler & IM Stephen Solomon. FM Roger Nokes is highest South Island player so is now 2008 South Island Champion.
