Fox Creek leathers By: Wayne Wm. Peterson A jacket is a jacket is a jacket, right? Wrong! As any of us who have ridden long enough to remember “kick starters,” or who have made contact with the very hard and cruel asphalt can tell ya’ jackets are not created “equal.” After many years with Harley I have a closet full of leather jackets, so much so that cows have been known to go miles out of their way just to avoid my house. Fashion leathers, or those you ware to the club, coffee house or concert are soft, lightweight and flexible leather, this is the way many of my “HD” jackets are. These are NOT, riding jackets, a riding jacket must be heavy grade leather, the Fox jacket, is a beefy (no pun intended) 3.25-4.5oz naked cowhide. This is to keep you warm, dry and most of all, for it to take the abuse of “going down,” instead of your skin. Riding jackets like the one sent for my review from Fox Creek Leathers; The Vented Reflector, should also have longer zippered sleeves, so at the full extension of your arms to reach your bars, your wrists are still covered and you don’t funnel the wind up your arms. One look will tell you that this jacket was designed with the “rider” in mind, from its zip out, full, Thinsulate® removable liner, to a very handy neck warmer, which tucks into a zippered pouch in the high neck band. Another nice touch is the reflective lines that encircle the jacket at chest height. In case that buffet was more than you could resist, their are adjustable Velcro sides, for a bit of extra room. Also to keep your cool their are zippered dual vents front and rear, and for even more ease of movement; expansion joints at the shoulders (also eliminates that “hunch back” look). And my personal gripe; pockets: Well those Foxy people at Fox have even me covered-Inside Pockets: Two, left snap, right zipper, plus two zippered slash pockets on the out side left and right, all together there are 12 zippers on this sucker, that’s enough “zip sound” to make any heard of sheep stampede. The “Vented Reflector Jacket's” regular price starts at $369 (currently on sale for $332), and the price increases as you go up in size. Sizes 48-52 @ $406, 54-56 @ $443, 58-60 @ $480, sizes 38-46 Longs are $406, and so on. The jackets carry a Lifetime guarantee, AND, wonder of wonders, are made in the USA. Nice stuff Fox.
A Neck Warmer is a nice touch, but one that tucks away, now that’s sweet.
