Mr. Wright
This is my 21st year teaching in Valhalla. I love books and reading, sailing, old cars, puzzles, and travelling in England. (That’s me up on top of the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral in London!)
November 8, 2009
Could it have been a nicer weekend? I don’t think so...a true treasure at this time of year! And now that the World Series is over, we can actually get to sleep at a normal time! We very much enjoyed hearing Patrick’s telling us all about the last game of the Series...he was there with his dad right to the end—a memory that will last a lifetime!
We are in the midst of closing out the first marking period, as report card conferences are coming up next Friday...this week’s spelling unit is actually going to be the first in the second marking period.
As you can see from the pictures above, we will be talking about Veteran’s Day this week in class...click on the Veteran’s Day link in the nav bar above for more info on what we do to recognize this important holiday. The pairs of pictures are the last US veteran of World War I, Frank Buckles, as a young man and now; the other is the oldest of the 3 British veterans who all passed away this year...Henry Allingham was 113 when he passed away this summer. Frank Buckles is one of 3 World War I veterans who are still alive worldwide. As you enjoy your day off on Wednesday, please remember all the millions of people who have served their country in times of war and peace throughout our history.
We have a rather spectacular run of third grade birthdays at the beginning of November...in my homeroom and math classes alone, there are six days in a row starting last Friday: Tai, Sebastian, Brooke, Juliet, Chloe, and Alex! I cannot remember any other time that that has ever happened in the time I have been teaching.
Cheers,
Bill Wright:)
