The ‘inspiration’ for this album was my novel Juby’s Rook. Click here to read an extract. The novel’s main setting is a real English village (though I give it a different name) evacuated by Winston Churchill’s government in 1943 and never returned to the owners and tenants in spite of promises to do so. Rouklye has been in ruins for decades, but one of the wartime evacuees returns there as an old man with a very specific intention in mind.
