Port City pipes & Drums

Our Mission
The Port City Pipes & Drums was formed in 1995 by Pipe Major Andy Simpson of St. Andrews, Scotland.  P.M. Simpson served in the Scots Guard Regiment of the British Army.  Since then the band has maintained a membership of around twenty.  P.M. Simpson has taught many of the pipers, many of whom hadn’t any prior experience before joining the band.

Our primary mission is to have fun as a band, which during a performance can be contagious through out the venue.  While keeping in strict guidelines with the primary mission, we also strive for upstanding musicianship.  We are always expanding our repertoire, while maintaining our standards and crowd pleasers. Did I mention we like to have fun too?  An equally important part of our mission is the cultural aspect of the band; while bagpipes and bagpipe bands are synonymous with Scotland, they’re are much apart of other cultures around the world as well.  One of the passive benefits of either performing or listening to pipe band music is the history that goes with it.  The majority of pipe tunes are relative to some event in the past... even as recent as Iraq and not all are war oriented.  Oh yeah... we also like to have fun!

Nothing stirs the soul like the highland pipes.  For centuries the pipes have lent courage to men during battle,  led couples to blissful holy matrimony,  and laid heroes to rest.

For over ten years the Port City Pipes & Drums have performed for many occasions in eastern North Carolina.  Please consider us for your next event.
