‘Brilliant musicians, instruments and stages, all with their story to tell – that’s where I’m at. Wherever the gig, from the smallest club to the grandest hall, I always have the same feeling of exhilaration as the playing begins and a unique performance unfolds.
This is my vision of Jazz - the energy, expression and atmosphere of what’s happening on, and off stage. The quiet moments too, they can swing!
All the way from Dizzy and Miles to here and now in Africa, The Americas, Australasia and Europe I’ve found that music and a smile is the language of the World.
Jazz is the Poetry.
Love it.’

The Collection
‘My aim when selecting the photographs was that they should hang well together -
like a band at the bar, each distinctive in their own right but definitely an ensemble.
I also wanted to reflect the dynamics of artists in full flight and to contrast their vitality with tranquil still life images.
It’s always a pleasure to show new work -  nine of the photographs are less than a year old.
Charlie Rouse on film watched by Jay Phelps of Empirical is a favourite of mine - the baton passed to a new jazz generation of brilliant young musicians.
This photograph and the portrait of Kurt Elling were both taken in January, ‘Drummer in Havana’ reminds me of that hot city and was made at the Jazz Café in February this year.

As Miles said, ‘ It’s not where you’ve been, it’s where you’re at.’
I can do nought but agree.
