Adventurous Womyn of London (AWOL) is a social group which formed in 1990 by a group of women who recognized the need for having an events-based group which would include all women in and around the London area. Events are advertised through a newsletter called AWOL Bits&Pieces, a compilation of events/concerts/activities/news items of interest to the women of AWOL and beyond. Although many events are in this compilation, those which are AWOL-hosted events are for women-only and tend to be advertised to the gay/lesbian community which accounts for its largely lesbian following. However, all women are welcome to come out and enjoy the events such as horseback riding, camping, canoeing, hiking, live theatre, concerts, potluck dinners & barbeques, games and movie nights to name a few.
There are even theme-based sub-groups, each with its own distribution lists set up for specific event information to be circulated to those who sign up for these subgroups:

Women who tend to come out to our events are those who are new to the city, new to their sexual orientation, or looking for a new circle of friends. It’s a terrific dynamic group of women who often strike up meaningful friendships with other AWOLers!
