How to Clean a Brass Instrument

  1. BulletFlush the instrument out with a mild solution of soapy luke warm water.


  1. BulletDo not use hot water as this will ruin the lacquer.


  1. BulletRinse through with cold water and dry thoroughly.


  1. BulletUse a flexible cleaning brush to thoroughly clean out the slides and tubing (ex. A)


  1. BulletThe valve casings should be carefully cleaned using a valve casing cloth (ex. B) (NOT a standard flexible brush)


  1. BulletClean the mouthpiece with a mouthpiece brush (ex. C)


  1. BulletThe pistons should be carefully removed in sequence (only do one at a time) and dried.


  1. BulletWipe down with luke warm soapy water, rinse and dry.


  1. BulletGrease the slides (ex. D) and oil on the valves. (no picture)


  1. BulletReplace all slides


  1. BulletClean out all junk from case. Vacuum case and spray with Lysol or some other disinfectant. Let dry before you put your instrument back in.
