Catherine’s View

Sharing a little perspective on the most critical event this year! Please click the link to the article I am referring to in my letter to the editor of the Ottawa Citizen. Do we allow our country to become something designed by someone else; or will we define our nation according to our values, our peace-seeking ways? Please read the article as well as my response and then if you feel as strongly as I do about voicing your views, while we still can, please write to your MP, your local paper and anyone else who should be informed on these events. Go to my navigation page for other articles on the SPP - or check www.vivelecanada.ca and read the volumes on this subject. It’s not just a trade deal,....it’s empire building and we aren’t sitting on top of the throne!
Thank you

Dear Editor
I was pleased to read your article as noted above. Pleased by the fact that you are reporting this threat to our Nation’s future. Pleased that you made space to partially explain what the Security and Prosperity Agreement, aka North American Union, means to Canadians. After that it becomes a little displeasing and rather upsetting.
Media can present these stories in many ways. It would have been far more helpful to Canadians had you titled the article, ‘Foreign Army prevents Canadians from their right to peaceful assembly’! When you state ‘Mr. Patterson reacted angrily’ you failed to provide what actions made you think he was angry. You followed your statement with a quote which is far from anger; rather it is explanatory, the word he used, ‘deplorable’ makes perfect sense in the context of Canadian people in a democratic country being prevented from gathering to discuss the demise of their country.
Your article makes it rather clear though that the U.S. ARMY has in fact taken control of Canadian land and her people, (with the assistance of our own police) as well as a 25 mile security radius in order for our Prime Minister, and two other country’s leaders to discuss in private the creation of the loss of our sovereignty through a new fortress America. Why are we still calling Canada a democracy when apparently we work for them; not the other way around!
As a result of 911 you explain increased security measures are now required for international meetings. Perhaps if they were meeting to discuss something that was for the benefit of the people, the security and prosperity of the people in a safe environment, rather than heightening the war effort, the need for security might vanish? You quote, Frederick Castonguay as saying, ‘They didn’t want us to rent it to anyone.....they need the room there to put equipment an special vehicles...there was no choice’ So in our democratic country we have ‘no choice’ ! And this newspaper doesn’t see the ridiculousness of this situation? I suppose in undemocratic countries we might expect this, but in Canada? ‘Deplorable’ is the mildest possible word, one committed to freedom, could possibly use, even in polite conversation!
yours respectfully
Catherine Whelan Costen
