Tactics
Tactics
Just twenty years ago the vast majority of Western Hunters stuffed four rounds down their bolt action 30-06 and walked the closest ridge-line to town looking for anything with antlers or horns. Hunting tactics were reduced to a peak through the rifle scope and ranges rarely exceed 100 yards. Well, things have changed and will continue to change.
I recently reviewed the harvest success statistics in Arizona for the past 20 years and found some interesting data. In the last two decades the hunting industry has given us incredibly precise factory ammo, phenomenal binoculars, easy to carry packs, waterproof boots, GPS, and laser rangefinders. Guess how much our success rate has improved with all of this technology? ZERO!!!!!! That is correct; there has been no statistical improvement. Why you ask? Because our tactics need some serious work. We have worked hard and spent a lot of money on equipment but we have not yet learned how to employ the benefits of this technology. Western Hunter Magazine has made it our goal to bring you tactic articles that will be informative and increase your success.
