As always, Iron horse was an incredible show. With 80 entries this year, they ran 2 dressage rings and training through advanced. Team KHTC had some shinning moments and some agonies of defeat. Judy Howell pictured above with SV’s Shado with her niece Chelsey navigating had a good dressage and double clean marathon and came into the vet with great vitals, but had to scratch cones. Lindsey Nevitt had a great dressage at her 2nd prelim with SVs Sundragon and as always was well dressed for marathon only to have a heartbreaking roll over at the 1st turn in the 1st hazard !!! Everyone was fine and they drove the cones course the next day but finished on a withdrawn score. Sam Orem and AJ had a good dressage in intermediate single pony but unfortunately did not finish the marathon. Sam was a huge help on Sunday and had a wild ride with both Sterling and I in the advanced single cones. June Kingsley and High Country Doc with her son Steven navigating had an unfortunate correction of course but had some great moments on course and a good cones round. Sterling drove his stallion, Phailo in prelim single horse. This was Phailo’s 1st driving show and he was a real champ. He had some green moments but finished a respectable 6th place and even won a hazard on marathon. In the advanced division, Sterling driving Dante was 2nd in dressage with a 48, second on marathon and a good cones to finish in 2nd to the always well dressed Canadian, Courtney MacGillvray and Typhoon Velvet and added Dante to his list of USEF long listed horses. Wendy and Duke had a tense dressage, but won the marathon with her ever enthusiastic navigator, Doe Run Dave Hirsh. Unfortunately a bad cones round put them in a very distant 3rd. Not our finest moments but look out for team KHTC at laurels.
So while i would have like to have said, look at how great we were at Iron Horse, we won everything....moral of the story is, you can’t win ‘em all but you can always have fun. We all had a great time with good food, friends and horses. Thank you to the Organizers and Joanne and Ron Swenson for putting on a great show. Do not miss it in 2008 !
