Artist Statement

As an artist, I want my paintings to reveal to the viewer a sense of place, the atmosphere and the light. It may be a local scene that people drive by everyday but never notice. My goal is to bring that spark of inspiration that I felt in the creation of the work through to the viewer. I think it is more important than ever to create images that capture the beauty of our neighborhoods, nearby farms, rivers, mountains, cool old buildings, and open spaces.
Some have said that painting is dead. I don’t think the people who have said that have ever set up their easel outside somewhere and painted what is before them. Every moment is different than the last and beauty is a fleeting thing. How could painting be any more alive, I say.
