Now Where Did I Put My Autograph Book?
More importantly, do I even own an autograph book? Better buy one, because we’re staying at the Beach Club in September and word is that’s where all the movie stars stay!
I’d booked us at Wilderness Lodge using the “Bounceback Offer”, that is to say, if you book a trip while you are still at WDW and from the telephone in your room you can “bounce back” and save up to 40%. In the back of my mind, however, I was thinking what I could do with AP (annual pass) rates when they came out, which they recently did.
I wanted the Polynesian (that’s always our first choice) but was told that it was not available for my dates. Lauren had mentioned how great it had been to be walking distance of EPCOT and so I asked for the Boardwalk Resort or Villas, and there was nothing there.
“Wait”, CRO (reservations) says, “We can put you at the Beach Club for $240.”
Hmmmmmm, the Beach Club. I had always had kind of an elitist prejudice against the Beach Club. It seemed kind of “un-Disney” to me, the kind of hotel people who go to WDW and don’t want to really feel like they are at WDW. I had heard that celebrities stayed there. It seemed like a nice hotel like any other nice hotel in the country.
I love the kitsch at other resorts. I love the “Brady Bunch Goes to Hawaii” feel at the Polynesian and the feeling that you might run into Walt at any corner of the Contemporary Resort. No kitsch to be found at the Beach Club.
But let’s review - Beach Club for 4 nights, pricing that out at 4 nights without the AP would be 1463.00, and with the AP 976.00, a savings of almost $500.
Wilderness Lodge is not on the monorail and requires a bus for getting around to almost everywhere at WDW. The Beach Club is a 5 minute walk to EPCOT and a bit more to the monorail to the MK. It’s also a short walk to the Disney Studios.
And there may be movie stars at the Beach Club. I hope not lame ones like Regis and Kelly Ripa, but I get a kick out of seeing famous people and hope that I catch them doing something crazy.
I booked the Beach Club. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
