Top Ten Things to do on a Rainy Day
First thing you should know - I don’t do ponchos. You know, those ugly yellow or white things that get to be like 150 degrees inside and feel like you are wearing a painter’s drop cloth. I am aware that some people love them and actually pray for rain so that they can take advantage of low crowd levels at the parks but that’s just not me. If I were at WDW today, let’s say staying at the Polynesian, and it was one of those “not-letting-up-all-days” kind of rains as opposed to a “ it’s-Florida-it’s just-a-brief-cloudburst-it’ll-be-over-quick” kind of rains I would do one or more of ten things.
1) I’d go to the movies. The AMC Pleasure Island 24 always has something I’d like to see, and while I’m at Downtown Disney I’d 2) poke around the Virgin Megastore. If I had a pass to get into Pleasure Island I’d 3) go make a video of myself singing “Wichita Lineman” at Superstars Studios.
I could go to Disney Quest which is right there in the neighborhood but I’m more likely to 4) go back to the resorts, and use one of their video game rooms - lots of the resorts have good ones. Had I gone to the one at the Polynesian, the next thing after that would be 5) the Polynesian Resort’s tiki bar, the Tambu Lounge. I’d have a Lapu Lapu and people watch. My Mother-In-Law did this every afternoon rain or shine when we brought her and she met all kinds of interesting people. But she’s a lot friendlier than I am.
While I am in the Magic Kingdom area I might 6) monorail hop for awhile, checking out what was going on at the resorts and maybe even take the boat out to Wilderness Lodge for a drink. The 8 story lobby with fireplace would be an excellent place to sit out a storm.
Drinking makes me sleepy so now I’d go back to my room and 7) nap, and then anticipating the evening’s calories I’d 8) work out at the Grand Floridian spa and health club.
There’s enough room at EPCOT to get away with an umbrella so I might go there and dash around a little, 9) doing the longer rides and attractions like Ellen’s Energy Adventure and The American Adventure and then I’d for sure 10) shop at Mousegears for a good long while. That’s my favorite shop at EPCOT and maybe in all of WDW.
That’s 10; right? Maybe we’re just too easily amused, but we don’t mind a rainy day at WDW. We spent an entire rainy, or rather typhoony long weekend there one August and I’m a little gun shy of going in August now. During major downpours boats and monorail were not running, even with a poncho you ended up drenched, and of course all of the outside entertainment was cancelled for pretty much of the whole weekend, but that’s another story...
