Another thing about codes - it does seem like Disney tries to mess with us a little bit when it comes to them. Sometimes getting one can be like playing that carnival game where you try to hit the heads of gophers with a mallet as they pop up of the board and they are just kind of one step ahead of you. And you never win.

I don’t like losing. Especially money.

You have to really want the discount, and you have to believe you can get one.  Do you really want it? Do you believe?  I can’t hear you!! “ I do believe in discounts!” That’s much better. Now, let’s go get one.

First, find one that is supposedly available for your trip by consulting mousesavers.com. Now, call for your reservation. Use the phone, not the internet, because sometimes you have to kind of trick them into giving you the discount, or at least wear them down a little, and this is harder to do online.

Call 1-407-WDISNEY and unless you have found a great package (my experience has been that the packages are not great) make sure that you ask for a quote for a “room only” reservation. If you do not say this, they will try to link you to a package and then you have to pay more in advance and have less time to cancel your reservation if you need to. Remember - room only!

Be prepared for them to tell you nothing is available and don’t be disappointed if they do. This is not the last word on the subject.

For one thing, WDW reservationists are notorious for getting this kind of thing wrong. Ask lots of questions. Be specific. If the one you are asking about is not available, ask if there are any others. The first thing I do if told there is absolutely nothing available is to hang up and call right back. You’ll get another reservationist and chances are,  more options.

OK, so 2 reservationists tell you there is nothing. Don’t give up yet. Call back every week, every day if you can, and ask again for discounts. The thing is, WDW releases only so many rooms at the discount and once they are gone they are gone. Except they aren’t really, because people cancel and more open up.

Nobody said this was going to be easy. Well, I guess WDW says that, but if you join the quest for the code, you’ll nail the gopher right on the head and beat them at their own game.
