Vegetarian WDW - The Wave
The relatively new restaurant, “The Wave” at WDW’s Contemporary Resort seems like just one more bland thing that Disney has done to that resort. First they make the lobby look like a Marriott Hotel lobby, then they relocate and scale down the best arcade (my favorite, anyway) on the property, then they get rid of one of my favorite lounges at WDW (The “Outer Rim”, with it’s nice view of the lake and the monorail zipping overhead). And finally they open a new, disappointing restaurant.
At first glance it looked promising, with its Starship Enterprise - like tunnel entrance
and its attractive lounge area.
But dinner was not what I had hoped, particularly as a vegetarian.
First let me say this, and I am fully aware that meat eaters never consider this a valid complaint, but I am so tired of going to restaurants that have only one meatless entree. I think that there are enough of us that are either vegetarian or at least cutting back on meat that it is not unreasonable to hope for a couple of choices. I mean, really, how would you like to go to restaurant after restaurant at which there is only ever one thing on the menu that you can eat? It gets old.
So even though “The Wave” looked like it might be modern and have cutting edge cuisine, for us it was just another place that limited us to the one (very boring) vegetarian choice, the seasonal vegetable stew with multi-grain rice. It was OK - certainly not worth 18 bucks.
There were other complaints. They were out of the first 2 wines we ordered. While the bar area is creative looking, the dining room is not - very nondescript and “ordinary restaurant - like”. And those vests that they make the servers wear? Let’s just say they aren’t becoming.
To top it off our server was a bit of a condescending pain in the neck.
We had fun, we always do at WDW restaurants, but I just have to ask: If Disney went to all the trouble to create this new restaurant, why weren’t they more creative in doing so?
