Color Organs and Magic Lanterns: a Sound and Light Show by Wendell M. Kling
"Color Organs and Magic Lanterns: A Sound and Light Show by Wendell M. Kling" at the Kruglak Gallery at MiraCosta College was a further exploration of some of my recent interests in early optical devices. In this show I created a theatrical space, activated by the presence of the audience. Details of the proscenium and walls are projected from sculptural projection machines grouped near the center of the space. These machines combine a variety of reconfigured projection devices, archaic and contemporary, with simple machines of my own design. I am interested in exploring not only the mechanisms of these obsolete technologies but also the social milieus in which they flourished.
