The East vs West Division Super Streets raced Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway. Excluding two upcoming special events, the division has eight races left for the 2008 season. There were only eleven cars that showed up to compete Saturday night and eight of those drivers have yet to miss a race in the series. The decline in car count in the division may be attributed to the economy, gas prices, and mechanical damage from the previous 100 lap race. Whatever the reason for the decrease in car count, race fans know the Super Street division puts on a great show with some of the best talent racing on dirt on Saturday nights.
Robby Sawyer’s #98 continues to remain the points leader for both the Super Street Division and the East vs West Series. Displaying his new car color and familiar Sawyer Racing orange Sawyer took to the track and qualified third place at a 15.060. The track was fast Saturday night and Eric Cimental qualified at 15.000 flat, Toby Randolph barely nudged Sawyer’s time with a 15.055.
All eleven cars started the main event for a twenty-five lap race. Randolph sat on the pole with Darrell Hood earning the outside honors. When the green flag fell Hood spun in turn two creating a scramble of cars trying to avoid the spin. A restart would be thrown and Hood would sent to the back for bringing out the yellow. This would now place both the 20t of Toby Randolph on the pole and the 04 of Tim Randolph on the front row. The green was thrown again and on lap three a second yellow fell as a result of the #36 of Morris Sealy spinning in the same place Hood had previously spun. The remaining twenty-two laps ran caution free and the 04 of Tim Randolph took the win followed by Toby Randolph -#20t, Nick Sylvester #38, Robby Sawyer #98, and Eric Cimental #17.
