Sawyer Wins main event at santa maria

The East vs West Race Series held his fourth event of the season Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway.  The beautiful warm weather brought  great race conditions and a great night of racing for Robby Sawyer as he captured his first main event win of the 2008 season.

The thirty-lap main event saw twelve cars starting the event with Sawyer starting in the seventh position.  It didn’t take long for action to begin as Sawyer began making moves to the front of the pack. Within two laps Sawyer had moved to fourth.  A second lap incident involving #2 of Darrel Hood and the #20 of Toby Randolph brought out the first yellow.  Sawyer now moved into third because of the incident that had Randolph pitting with a flat tire.  With Sawyer now third behind the #17 of Eric Cimental the green was thrown again  and it took Sawyer  one lap to pass #17 of Eric Cimental and now he had placed himself in the second position. Several laps later saw a few more yellows with cars breaking and accidents that led to Robby making some quick decisions. A yellow on lap 17 brought lady luck to the stage as the leader Nick Sylvester pulled to  the infield because of mechanical problems, Robby would now be in first position.

Sawyer lead  the  race field to take the green flag once again and one more yellow would be thrown before the evening’s  final checkered flag would fall. The remainder of the race #98 looked very fast as Robby drove the remaining race laps very consistent and smooth in the corners.  Sawyer was never challenged for the lead and took the win for the division.

In the Winner’s Circle Robby told the crowd how great it feels to capture his first win this year. Robby also thanked each of  his sponsors mentioning everyone of them in the post race interview. He then thanked family and friends for traveling to Santa Maria to support him and mentioned his baby girl Colbie that was in the grandstands. Sawyer ended his interview with thanking his crew for  getting the car in the Winner’s Circle...they worked hard before the main event changing an A-arm that had got damaged earlier in the heat race.

Way to go Robby Sawyer...the first one is in the books!

Robby Sawyer will race again in two weeks at Bakersfield Speedway.
