Ellie now has her third ear infection in six weeks. I had her ears checked late last week and they were completely clear, so we know that this infection is new and not lingering from the previous one. Each one seems to come on more quickly and be more severe than the previous one. Within 24 hours, she went from having the sniffles, to a runny nose, puffy eyes, and the worst green eye discharge I have ever seen. She could barely open her eyes they were so sticky!
I am so frustrated that we have had to go through this. I know it is fairly minor in the grand scheme of life, but it is disruptive to all of us and I am not sure how to proceed. Perhaps the end of cold and flu season is near and that may solve the problem. But, I am reluctant to keep her out of play group or other activities just to minimize her exposure to germs. It is amazing that a small little cold can turn into such a painful problem for her. More important than the hassle and frustration, is the sadness I feel as I look at Ellie--as she cries in pain--and know that I am unable to comfort her. I also feel helpless to prevent this from happening again. Thankfully, the Urgent Care center was good to us and it seems the antibiotic is already taking effect.
