For the past six years, the Bakersfield’s AIDS Project rented a home in East Bakersfield that we call Ricky’s Retreat.  Ricky’s Retreat is located at 910 Grace Street, and we use the facility to provide critical housing for hospice and transitional persons with AIDS. We have housed over 45 clients, provided nutritional meals every Friday, provided groceries and Get Bus passes, held support group meetings and workshops, and delivered various supportive services and referrals for well over 95 clients.

As you may have heard, we are facing eviction from Ricky’s Retreat.  We had worked with the owner of the property to obtain an option to buy.  But the owner lost the property to foreclosure and the bank is evicting Bakersfield’s AIDS Project from the property. 

There is hope.  The bank has postponed the eviction for a short period of time to give the Bakersfield’s AIDS Project a chance to buy the property.  While buying the property was our eventual goal, we certainly do not have the funds to buy the property today.  We desperately need the community’s help so that Ricky’s Retreat can continue to serve local persons with AIDS.
