Citywood West: Autumn
Citywood The concept for Citywood came from my night time hikes in the wooded areas of Portland, Oregon. There will eventually be 4 of the 30X40’s, one for each cardinal direction/season.

The city sparkles like a serene jewel, a galaxy of human-made lights. From the dark of the woods the city seems like a writhing structure of chaotic light loosely bound on a luminous grid. The figure is always placed in the woods and looking toward the city asking the question, where to from here? Our way of life in the industrialized nations is not sustainable. This project arose from my habit of walking, not driving. Our machines insulate us from the world around us that provides us with the nourishment with which we have the energy to make our wondrous inventions. If we don’t start taking better care of it, it will stop taking care of us. You like to breathe? Quit cutting down so many trees! Paper or plastic? How about neither! Use a backpack or other reusable bag. There are many ways to cut down on how we use resources.
