Body Count

By Walter Moore, Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles

The City's Animal Services Department has issued a 28-page annual report.  The cover features -- naturally enough -- a picture of Mayor Photo-Op hugging a puppy.

Buried on page page 22 are the actual numbers of dogs and cats killed each year: 6,937 dogs per year, which is 19 per day, and 12,278 cats per year, or 33 per day.

In a city of 3.9 million people, with an annual budget of $6.7 billion, we can find homes for these pets. We don't have to kill them. We just need a mayor unwilling to accept unnecessary cruelty to animals.

Posing with a puppy for a photo isn't good enough. My platform: no kill, no delay, no excuses.
