Villaraigosa Administration Pays Cronies $2500 Per Toilet

If you have any doubts about whether City Hall is squandering your hard-earned tax dollars by giving them to special-interest cronies, you must read an article in today’s L.A. Times by Ted Rohrlich and Jessica Garrison.

The Housing Authority, which is supposed to provide affordable housing for the needy, is instead just Tammany Hall for a new century.

Villaraigosa’s administrators awarded no-bid contracts, at inflated prices, to companies run by family members.  And, when the law required competitive bidding, no problem:  the administrators submitted phony bids at inflated prices, under the names of both real and imaginary companies, so their cronies would win those contracts, too.

The contracts awarded, moreover, were quite lucrative:  the City paid $2500 per toilet, compared to the $250 the County pays for toilets -- compared to the $97.67 they sell for in the real world.

So the next time someone claim you need to pay higher taxes to pay for “affordable housing,” explain to him we don’t need higher taxes, we need an honest, competent mayor who shows up at work each day and manages the City’s agencies -- not a career politician who uses tax dollars to award cronies.

Oh yeah, and if you haven’t contributed yet, how about chipping in the price of a toilet to the campaign?  Click here to flush away Villaraigosa’s crooked administration.
