Little House on a Big Lake

The purpose of this blog is to share the excitement of building our new house.  The WEW estate (Waller-Evans Walbridge) has been designed to meet the ongoing needs of our delightful clan to have a place to congregate.

The Little House Recycled

Well, today the demolition occurred.  Much of the materials in the house are being recycled.  The oak floors are in Catherine Gallouet’s house.  We will be reusing the doors from the little house.  We will be reusing the bathroom fixtures from downstairs in an upstairs bathroom.   The sliding doors will go on the billiard room.  Pipes, windows, and other materials will also be reused.  But nevertheless this era is over.

Plans Complete

Yesterday we received the construction drawings.  That means we can get a building permit and begin.  It also means we can finalize our financial arrangements.  That will determine our actual budget.  So now the choices become real.  We are loading up the storage unit--which is huge.  It is forty foot long but filling up (alarmingly).

Just to catch you all up.

Yes, some of the lights were jokes.

We will not make the house green even though Kevin Dunn thought it looked great.

The Bank has indicated that they will lend the necessary funds for the project.

The tree guy is coming back to cut up the wood into reasonable lengths.

Our contractor is meeting with the zoning board of appeals on Tuesday night for clarification on setbacks from the high water mark and approval of the location of the new septic system vis-a-vis the

Progress?

The maple tree in the once and future kitchen got cut down several hours before the snow started.  So if you know anyone who would like a 25 foot long, 4 foot thick, 2 ton or so, maple stick please let us know.

Susan and I spent the day looking at appliances and fixtures and lights.  Every time we think we have made a decision we discover more decisions we are going to have to make.  We are going to post some options we have considered on another page of photographs.  Please send us your
