SEE Turtles: A cure for Nature Deficit Disorder
SEE Turtles: A cure for Nature Deficit Disorder
March 7, 2008
Feeling like you could use some time in nature, hanging out with sea turtles, taking in some ocean and sun, and making a difference? Has it been too long since you were with a wild animal, in a wild place, on their terms? Are you feeling Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD) creeping in? Or have you and I been saying "let's go to Baja and see turtles together" for way too long?

On the SEE Turtles site you’ll find the trip itinerary and description. We're certain this will be a one of a kind experience as we'll experience sea turtles, hands-on out on the ocean as well as on their nesting beaches. Very few people ever get this close to sea turtles in the wild. You'll want to have your cameras and video charged and ready for this trip!
A couple of years ago we worked on a documentary project with Animal Planet call "Get Out There" that highlighted Baja's best ocean wildlife and natural protected areas, while traveling with the Ellis family of Long Island on the trip of their lives (I think we cured Parker Ellis of his case of NDD!). See for yourself! Here's a clip from that Animal Planet documentary.
Following its airing, there was tremendous interest in repeating that trip. Out of that interest has grown our SEE Turtles Project. We call it "conservation tourism" and the idea is to connect great experiences with ocean wildlife and saving these amazing animals.
On this expedition we'll visit some of the places where our partner organizations are working on the front lines to save sea turtles and their habitat. Our visit will support their work financially and we'll help grow the conservation tourism efforts that will provide economic alternatives to fishermen and poachers.
Our expedition will be filling up quickly, but I wanted to let you know ASAP about this chance for us to hang out together with sea turtles in Baja.
Let me know if you have any questions, or contact Brad Nahill, the SEE Turtles Project Manager, to make sure you have a spot: bnahill@oceanconservancy.org

And if you just don't have the time...be sure to find a way to SEE some wildlife, in a wild place near where you live, and cure your NDD...
PS feel free to forward this along to anyone else you know who'd like to join our group!
