Wakefield Studios

Welcome to the multi-media visual art studio of Sculptor Don Wakefield.

Come on in for a visit. That’s me in the upper left with “Fig#1” in progress, followed by “Birth of Knowledge” and finally “Something Grows Every Season” created for the City of Chino, CA.

Passion and purpose evolve into contemporary works of art in all sizes, themes and materials.  Over the years I’ve created original multi-media works for cities, art galleries, museums, sculpture gardens and individuals.  My large-scale Public Art Projects have been installed in communities from California to Chicago and smaller works are located all over the world.  I really enjoy the visual impact of combining materials to offer color, contrast, texture and story, hope you do too.

One word to describe me if I may; versatile.  For the outdoor placement of sculpture I usually create in quality materials such as stone, metal, glass, fiberglass, ceramic and concrete, while other “projects” have been created with recycled material, cast paper, wood, resin, liquids, silicone rubber and just about anything else I can get my hands on.  If there’s an agenda its to create stimulating art and environments that offer a lasting and entertaining quality.  Visit the portfolios link above for images of various series as well as the large-scale and collaborative works.

While you’re here visit the photography section in the portfolios link to see images and read about  “One Sculpture an American Journey”.  This ongoing tour is creating a history for the sculpture titled “New Bloom” as I photograph it in front of landmarks, out in nature and at cultural venues as part of an “unauthorized exhibit”.  The goal is to make it the world’s most well traveled sculpture.  A picture book and a documentary are now in the works.  Below are a few places it’s traveled to: Coba, a Mayan temple, the beautiful Los Angeles Arboretum (or Artboretum) in front of the environmental work “Catawampus by” by Patrick Dougherty and in the snow in Lake Tahoe.
