Lauren Edson

 
 

Training

Lauren Edson received her early training from Westside Dance Academy and Ballet Idaho Academy.  She continued her formal studies at North Carolina School of the Arts and The Juilliard School.  She currently dances with Trey McIntye Project. She has attended intensive workshops at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, The Joffrey Ballet and Oregon Ballet Theatre.  Her professional experiences include: Lane Hunter {dance}, The Portland Opera, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Idaho, Idaho Dance Theatre and DROP Dance Collective.  She has had the opportunity to perform the works of Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, Maguy Marin, Angelin Perljicov, James Sewell, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Robert Battle, Johannes Wieland and Alex Ketley, among others.

Choreography

She recently won NWPDP’s choreography competition, “Pretty Creatives” and created a new work during its week long summer intensive.  In December, her work will be presented in Seattle at On the Boards, as part of the A.W.A.R.D. Show.  She has received grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council to perform her choreography and her work has been featured at the American Dance Guild Festival in New York, Conduit: Charged, AWOL, Bluesky Choreography Series, Regional Dance America, Ten Tiny Dances, Portland State University, Idaho Dance Theatre, Balance Dance Company, Portland Gay Symphonic Band and DROP Dance Collective, to name a few.  Mia Michaels has described Edson’s choreography as “classic modern, well-crafted with excellent staging.”

Teaching

She currently teaches for Trey McIntyre Project as part of its “Last Chance Dance” series.  She has been a guest instructor for numerous companies, Universities and studios throughout the nation including: BodyVox, Willamette University, Northwest Professional Dance Project, Westside Dance Academy, Boise State University, Balance Dance Company, Montana Arts Association, Columbia Dance Center, Portland Youth Ballet, Ballet Idaho Academy, Northwest Conservatory of Dance and Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.  Her teaching style has been described as, “fresh and very current.”
