                                Welcome Letter From Our Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of the Brooklyn Avenue learning community, I would like to welcome you to another wonderful school year.  I am excited to begin another year as Principal of the Brooklyn Avenue School.  Our school consists of approximately 320 enthusiastic learners in kindergarten through sixth grade.  This learning community and I are committed to providing a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment where all students are encouraged to grow.  The Brooklyn Avenue staff is dedicated to providing quality education by cultivating a learning community that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.  Our students are exposed to a challenging curriculum and propelled toward academic excellence.  This is accomplished through the recognition of individual learning styles and instructional differentiation.  We believe that teaching needs to recognize this to meet the needs of a wide-range of abilities and learning styles to ensure success for all.  Our instructional staff leads students in the acquisition and development of the tools to make them life-long learners.

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) enriches the academic and social experiences of our students by providing a variety of activities throughout the school year.  They are an integral part of providing educational resources through field trips and cultural arts programs. This includes Parents As Reading Partners (PARP), holiday boutiques, enrichment assemblies, Mother/Son and Father/Daughter celebrations.  The PTA also provides classroom support through the organization of class parents.  We encourage all of our families to join this wonderful organization and remain involved to maintain a strong connection between the home and school.  A positive home/school connection assists in providing the best learning experience for our students.  The possibilities are endless when you combine our students' potential with the involved parent community that surrounds the Brooklyn Avenue School.

The Valley Stream UFSD 24 School Board and central administration provide a great deal of support and encouragement to the Brooklyn Avenue School.  We are fortunate to have this and join in their high expectation and sense of commitment to the students.

Thank you and I look forward to an exciting and prosperous school year.

Dr. Scott J. Comis

Principal
