Once there were three, a band destined for greatness with a name only a mother could love “Tongue 'N Groove”. Real punky stuff with an alternative air about it. This threesome comprised of Rick Metz on bass and vocals, Sandy Sadowsky on guitar and Vito Mori on drums adorned with flowing mullets and a little attitude, played songs with heart from the caverns of a beer warehouse to the stages of Prince George, BC.
It was a chance meeting at a house party that Rick met Steve, (which would never have happened if Rick had not been on a date with Steve’s ex-girlfriend) after a loose conversation about music it was revealed that Steve was a guitarist. Whether Tongue 'N Groove were looking for a fourth member or not, it happened and Steve darkened the doors of the Tongue 'N Groove rehearsal space with guitar in hand. After a night of jamming Steve signed up and then there were four.
In 1990 Ricks desire to fill the spot of lead singer without slinging his bass saw the short but effective addition of Kevin Brown on bass who contributed a song and played on several Critical Mass songs. And then there were five. It was soon decided that a name change was needed to identify this new entity and after a long and hard think a friend of the band came up with Critical Mass. It stuck and for the next three years (1989 to 1991) Critical Mass would write, record and perform original songs to the masses.
