This site displays images taken in the Autumn of 2007. Following a wet spell in midsummer, the late summer and early autumn in southern England stayed dry and warm. The nighttime temperature stayed above freezing for almost all of September and October, and so the native plants did not develop much colour.
The native fungi were not at their best because of these conditions, but I was still able to take good shots of some of the multitude of species to be found in the New Forest in Hampshire. I was also fortunate to witness Fallow Deer in the middle of their rutting season.
Although I normally prefer to take pictures of species in their natural habitat, we did visit the Sir Harold Hillier Arboretum and Exbury Gardens during this time. Both sites have plants from around the world that produce stunning autumn colour no nature photographer could resist!
