A year ago, teachers and students dreamed of an orchard at Vieja Valley. Two teachers wrote a $2,500 grant to fund this dream. Under the knowledgeable guidance of landscaper parents Autumn Brook and Carl Magagnosc, the dream has become a reality.
In February, Tim Barker and Lynn Seigel-Boettner’s buddy classes sketched designs for an orchard to be planted right outside our school library’s huge picture windows and the lunch area so that students will observe the seasonal changes. Landscaper parent Autumn Brook reviewed all the ideas and formulated a master plan.
On Saturday, March 15, teachers and families gathered for a bagel breakfast and broke ground for the orchard as they removed some of the existing plants and grass.
Throughout the week, Vieja Valley students continued to prepare the site.
