Happy Birthday Tatay!

My Tatay turned 60 today.  Paul and I were in Davao for our break and my sisters Rochess and Mi-ann came for the occasion.  Unfortunately Kiket, who works as a dentist in Saudi Arabia couldn’t make it.

We languidly spent the day together as a family, when Rochess had the idea of making a wooden walkway for Nanay’s mini-forest.  A mini-forest it is because in a 300 sq. m. lot grows four full grown mango trees, three full grown marang trees, two durian tree, one mangosteen tree,  two fruit bearing coconut trees, two lanzones trees, an array of bromeliads, orchids, pines, miniature bamboo, and what nots.  To top it all she also has a rattan plant, commonly found only in the Philippine jungles, snaking around her property.

Now thinking Rochess’ idea to be a great one, we immediately went to work.  I collecting the right wood, Paul sawing wood to the right size and Rochess laying the wood down.  Mi-ann just watched us while licking durian off her fingers.

We stopped our project only for a nice outdoor lunch and continued the work until it was finished.  Not even the rain can stop Paul from sawing away.

In the evening we had a quiet little party for Tatay.
