Over 110 chess players gathered at the Downtown Holiday Inn in Columbus Ohio over the weekend, July 7 - 9, to compete for prize money in the oldest tournament in the city’s history.
“This is the first time we made money in over 5 years,” Tournament organizer Lou Friscoe exclaimed to a round of applause. “Our profits will be used to sponsor more local tournaments and to facilitate the building of an outdoor chess pavilion in downtown Columbus,” Friscoe added.
