Mama Lucy Renju and the Second Chance Educational School of Tanzania
By Martin Fox - CGL President and Chief Entrepreneur
During our travels we meet so many wonderful individuals dedicated to making a difference in our world. That written, every once in a while we come across an individual who leaves us just plain speechless - individuals like Mama Lucy Renju - Managing Director of the Second Chance School in Moshi, Tanzania.
I met Mama Lucy in Moshi, Tanzania earlier this spring. Mama Lucy is a woman of great vision, with a keen intellect, and inspiring dedication. A woman of many talents, perhaps her greatest strength lies in her huge heart. You see, Mama Lucy is a woman filled with love for those less fortunate and she has dedicated the past 5 years of her life (and considerable personal resources) to providing Tanzanian’s youth and young adults with a second chance on life. The same second chance someone offered her when she was a young woman.
Nelson Mandela once said that “Education is the greatest weapon to change the world.” Few disagree with the premise that education is one of the best ways out of extreme poverty, yet only 5% of Tanzania’s males and 10% of Tanzania’s females make it past primary school (equivalent of 7th grade in the US). That is where Mama Lucy steps in, offering a second chance to Tanzania’s students who refuse to give up on their educational dreams. We are proud to support Mama Lucy and her role in creating sustainable economic capacity through young hearts and minds.
Welcome Mama Lucy and The Second Chance Educational Center of Moshi. We are looking forward to helping you in your work.
