Altavista’s Babelfish is a useful tool for translating text or entire websites into other languages. It is important to note that Babelfish will not translate the titles in your navigation bar, because those are actually graphics. If you plan to use this tool extensively, you may want to create your own text-based navigation system.
Here’s how to incorporate this in iWeb...
Make a text box on your site where you want to put the babelfish code, at least the same size as the Babelfish graphic. Place it where you want it to show up on the site. Type something like ADDBABELFISH in the box. (I personally don’t make a specific sized text box, I just add this text in the large text box, wherever I want the code to go.)
Then, publish.
Now here's the post-publishing part.
Mount your iDisk. Open the html file that you just modified and find ADDBABELFISH. Then paste the html code from Babelfish in its place.
The html code looks like this:
Here is an example:
Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly.
Please, leave a comment in my GuestBook if you are confused and need clarification, or just to let me know this has been helpful!
Or, maybe you are feeling really grateful and generous... care to buy me something off my Amazon Wishlist? Just about everything on there is intended for my classroom, so you would be making a great donation!
