Anne McGinn brings the spirit of the rural Midwest to Chicago. In her latest, large-scale work McGinn responds to the economics of agriculture over time, abstractly referencing derelict rural structures and rural vistas. Using the medium of collage to design her work, McGinn organizes her thoughts about her subject very quickly, capturing the features and effects in tiny collage “sketches” from which a series emerges. McGinn’s tapestries are characterized by a woven surface density and complexity that are as deceptively simple as they are visually eloquent.
