Prof. Pradyumna Vyas, Principal Designer, heads the Education wing at National Institute of Design (NID), India. He is also mentoring the Transportation & Automobile Design Discipline (Post-Graduate Programme) at NID.  He has done his Masters in Industrial Design from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India (IITB).
 
Prof. Vyas has over 24 years of professional and teaching experience in different spheres of design learning, execution and practice. Since last        18 years he is associated with NID as a Faculty Member in Industrial Design Discipline with major in Product Design.
 
Prior to joining NID, Prof. Vyas has 2 years consultancy experience in Product Design in Mumbai and 3 years overseas experience at Kilkenny Design Consultancy, Republic of Ireland.
 
At NID, he is teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses besides professional consultancy and training. His area of interest lies in design for consumer durables, consumer electronics and lifestyle accessory designs with non-precious material. Since 2001, Prof. Vyas is coordinating major design events in India includes, CII-NID Design Summits (an annual design event) and NID-Businessworld Design Excellence Award in India.  He has presented in various conferences in India and Internationally. Widely travelled across the world, he represented NID at various International Forums including International Council of Societies of Industrial Design – ICSID 95 – Taiwan, where he had received the Good Exhibition Planning & Design Award on behalf of NID and ICSID 2001 at Seoul -S Korea, 2003 in Hanover – Germany and in 2005 in Copenhagen, Denmark and in 2007 at San Francisco, USA.  He was invited to offer a Design Workshop at Singapore in 2005 as part of Singapore Design Festival and represented India in Asia Design Network Meeting in Singapore in October 2006.
 
He has established academic contacts with Pininfarina and FIAT Automobile Co. in Italy where NID’s students are working for their Design Departments.
 
He holds the chair of Technology and Design Interface Committee at NID and also the member of Governing Council of NID in 2002.

FIAT Car Design Competition
 
“Design The Italian Way” a competition organized by Fiat Auto that began on 30 November 2006 and ended in September 2007, pitting the creativity and talent of students from eight of the most important design schools in the world one against the other.
 
The goal was to design The Italian Way and to stimulate ideas, proposals and suggestions for the Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo models of tomorrow.

The 200 students, of 12 different nationalities, who participated in the “Design The ! Italian Way” competition were divided i nto three groups – one for each brand – and in total they presented 100 projects.
 
In June, a jury including the heads of styling for Fiat and Alfa Romeo chose the three best concepts from each school, one for each brand.
 
The works of the 24 finalists were displayed in an exhibition o! rganized in Turin, and the three projects that deserved a “special mention for the best Italian design for Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo” were selected on 20th September.
 
NID student, Mahaan Ghose was the winner for Alfa Romeo brand which was a very proud movement for NID as Transportation and Automobile Design discipline is recently started and through this competition NID has made very strong impact on the world of Transportation and Automobile Design.ways.
