Satish Gokhale
Director, Design Directions
 
A graduate of India’s premier design institute – National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, India with more than 20 years of experience in industrial design, combines design - technology, ergonomics, aesthetics and relevant materials to create a major impact on capital, medical equipments and electronic products.
 
Satish received the Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA Award 2005), instituted by IDSA and Businessweek – USA, for the product, ‘Solemates’ disposable footwear made out of only paper mache.
 
He was also awarded the “Best Indian Designer”, instituted by Businessworld – NID for Design Excellence in India – 2003.  2004 he received the industrial design excellence for medical equipment design. Year 2005, he received three awards in the same design competition.
 
1) Industrial design excellence for medical equipment,
 
 
2) Industrial design excellence for industrial equipment design and lastly the most important continuous design excellence for three consecutive years.
 
3) Recently he received the Industrial design excellence for medical equipment 2006.
 
Satish was selected as a jury member for the Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) – Washington DC – USA, in 2004.
 
He was selected as an international jury member for the South African Design Excellence Award that was held in the third week of July 2004 at Pretoria.
 
He was on the jury for the Singapore Design Award organized by the Design Association of Singapore and IE Singapore – held in the last week of August 2004.
 
Satish was invited by the Industrial Designers Society of America at Palo Alto – USA, as one of the six global thought leader to talk on the subject, “Design for the other Six Billion”.
 
He has been invited to speak at many National & International Design conferences.
 
He manages his design company called Design Directions Pvt Ltd., based in Pune along with his better half – Falguni who specializes in Graphic Design and also a graduate of NID. Her focus is on visual communication, interactive design, packaging design and brand building.
 
He has been able to raise a great level of awareness towards design in hard-core engineering sectors and prove to them by sheer market success, the importance and benefits of industrial design. The industry has responded well to his efforts with almost all of his clients coming back to him with new projects. Some of Satish’s products are sold in over 40 countries. He holds many patents and design registrations, most of which have been licensed.
