August ’08 Board Meeting Reminder

This month’s board meeting will be held Wednesday,  August 20, starting at 7:30 in the Community Room at Dunham Public Library, 76 Main St., Whitesboro, NY 13492.

At this month's meeting we'll discuss plans for the August regular meeting. Other topics may be discussed, as well.

Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month except December. All UAUG members are invited to attend board meetings, to share their ideas, and to help the board in its deliberations on the direction of UAUG.

Please come and share your ideas with us!

June ’08 Meeting Reminder

The June UAUG meeting is Tuesday, June 24, in the Community Room at Dunham Public Library, 76 Main St., Whitesboro, NY 13492. UAUG meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month, except December..

At this month's meeting, there will be a help session between 6:30 and 7:00pm, when members can get one-on-one help from other members. (Members are also encouraged to fill out cards with their own questions and tips they'd like to share. Ask for a card when you sign in!)

Beginning at 7:00pm, Ryan Rosati will explain and demonstrate ways to run Microsoft Windows on a Macintosh. Now that Macs are made with Intel chips, there is very little (hardware-wise) separating Macs from PCs. Apple itself makes Boot Camp software which can be used to start a Mac in Windows. There are also software packages that will allow you to run Windows virtually on your Mac, alongside your other Mac applications. Ryan will demonstrate one of these packages: VMWare Fusion.

If time permits after Ryan's presentation, a brief Q&A session will be held in which we'll first address any questions that were submitted on cards, then throw it open to any questions from the audience.

At the conclusion of the Q&A session, no later than 8:30pm, we will conduct the 50/50 raffle and prize giveaway. The main door prize this month will be a licensed copy of VMWare Fusion (MS Windows NOT included).

Just a reminder that this month's UAUG meeting will be held Tuesday, May 27, starting at 6:30 at the Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St. Clinton, NY 13323-1633.

At this month's meeting, there will be a help session between 6:30 and 7:00pm, when members can get one-on-one help from other members. (Members are also encouraged to fill out cards with their own questions and tips they'd like to share. Ask for a card when you sign in!)

Beginning at 7:00pm, Dan Herrmann will present an overview of iTunes. iTunes is a lot more than just the iTunes Music Store. Dan will highlight iTunes' many capabilities beyond the simple purchasing and organizing of music files.

If there is time after Dan's presentation, we'll have a Q&A session when members can pose their questions to the group. There's usually someone at the meeting who can help with most any problem.

At 8:30pm, we will conduct the 50/50 raffle and prize giveaway.

UPCOMING: In June, we plan to cover using Windows on your Mac. (If you are familiar with Apple's Boot Camp or using a PC virtualization program such as VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop, and would like to present or assist in presenting, please contact Programming Director Bob Schaffer at 853-5984.) It's also time to start planning for our annual July picnic. We could use some planners and helpers, so if you are interested, please contact vice president Peter Chien at pchien@mac.com.
